Hello loves!
We still hope that you and your families are healthy and taking care of each other. It’s been another big week for the USA as we reckon with our racist history, past and present. Nuu-Muu is committed to listening, learning, and standing as allies with Black people and other communities of color; and to doing our best as we stumble forward.
This week, our team shared resources with each other and took time to read, listen and learn. There are a lot of resource lists out there right now, so we made this cheat sheet in hopes of being of service.
We expect to be on this learning path with many of you for a good long while. Feel free to send us resources that speak to you. Some of videos below are hard to watch. We’re watching because it’s time to comprehend the magnitude of the problem. And because we honestly believe that change is possible.
Nuu-Muu is committed to creating an action plan to address our own race, diversity and inclusion deficiencies. We’re still figuring out exactly what that will look like for our little women-owned company, but there’s no doubt we have work to do. As a first step, we are committed to donating $3,000 to organizations working toward justice for Black people. Our staff will also have the (paid) opportunity to join the general strike on Friday June 12 to spend more time listening and learning. You can be sure that we’ll let you know what else we plan to do after we've finished our reflection and planning process.
Here are some things we’ve discussed this week.
The (current) basics:
- Arrest and death video of George Floyd (New York Times) –
- Video of Amy Cooper calling the Police on Christian Cooper
- Video of Ahmaud Arbery’s killing (Washington Post)
- Breonna Taylor’s Death (New York Times)
- Calls to Reform, Defund, Dismantle and Abolish the Police, Explained
